Brushing Boots
Brushing boots are protective boots worn to prevent injuries to the horse's legs. They are designed to be worn on the lower leg, fitting from just below the knee and are shaped to cover the fetlock joint on the inside of the leg. Identify brushing boots by the strike pad down the inside of the leg and the outer velcro straps securing them. When fastening brushing boots, the velcro straps should always go from front to back.
"Brushing" injuries happen when the horse knocks one leg against the other, or bumps the leg with the opposite hoof. Brushing boots can be useful for horses with a narrow build, unbalanced, or move in such a way that they are prone to knocking themselves. They can be worn for hacking, schooling, jumping and while in the field. Look for boots which are breathable to help prevent your horse's legs from overheating. For more sensitive horses, brushing boots with sheepskin or faux fur lining can help to prevent any rubbing.
